Kitab Al-Hikam is a major work by Ibn 'Ata'illah, which is highly popular, containing profound wisdom, insight into monotheism, ethics, and knowledge of God. Shaykh Ibn 'Ata'illah al-Sakandari (d. 1309 CE) lived in Egypt during the Mamluk Dynasty. He was born in Alexandria, then moved to Cairo, where he spent his life teaching the Maliki school of jurisprudence at various intellectual institutions, including the Al-Azhar Mosque. Simultaneously, he was widely recognized in the field of Sufism as a prominent "master" (sheikh) within the Shadhili Sufi order.

Ibn 'Ata'illah, the author of the commentary on Kitab Al-Hikam, was a prolific scholar. He produced no less than 20 works spanning various fields such as Sufism, exegesis, theology, hadith, grammar, and jurisprudence principles. Among his works, the most renowned is the commentary on Kitab Al-Hikam.
